African American Task Force
A Task Force for African American Student Achievement has been formed, and one of the areas of focus is parent/community engagement practices.
The San Bernardino Unified School District formed a Task Force for African American Student Achievement in the summer of 2014. As one of its initial efforts, this task force issued a report and recommendations in collaboration with the community’s African American Education Collaborative — a coalition of nearly a dozen community, faith-based, and civil rights organizations.
Action Planning Teams of district and school personnel, community and business leaders, parents, and students are tackling the key focus areas of parent engagement, student support, college readiness, and cultural competency training. These teams are studying the issues, collecting data, and proposing specific strategies.
