File photo of Middle College High School studentThe San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) is partnering with the United College Action Network, Inc. (U-CAN) to bring the annual Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) Recruitment Fair to Cajon High School on September 19.

The event is from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and will feature recruiters from more than 30 HBCU campuses. In addition to speaking to recruiters, high school seniors will be eligible for on-the-spot admissions and scholarships based on their transcripts and test scores. Students are highly encouraged to bring copies of their current transcripts and SAT or ACT test scores to the event.

Some of the advantages of applying to HBCUs are that they may offer academic and social support systems not available at larger, public colleges and admission is open to students who may not have completed what are known as the A-G requirements, which California State University and University of California campuses require.

All SBCUSD high school seniors are eligible to attend the HBCU Recruitment Fair on Tuesday, September 19. Students are strongly encouraged to pre-register by September 8 at
www.gotocollegefairs.com/California so free transportation and other accommodations can be made. By pre-registering, students also increase their chances of on-the-spot admissions because the HBCU representatives will be able to quickly review grades and test scores. Students should make an appointment with their high school counselor if they have questions.
