A LETTER FROM THE INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT
Dear San Bernardino City Unified Families,
I want to take a moment to thank all of our San Bernardino City Unified School District families and students for the patience and grace you have shown us over the last four (4) months. Navigating a worldwide pandemic will no doubt be a valuable lesson for our students about the grit that it takes to succeed in tough times like these.
I also want to provide you with updated information about our plan for the start of the 2020-2021 school year. When the new school year starts on Monday, August 3, 2020, it will be with an emphasis on providing safe and nurturing learning environments for students. We understand this means giving families options that may best suit their specific needs. These options may include full distance/digital learning for families not yet wanting to return to the traditional school setting, in person instruction when it is safe to bring students back, and a model that will blend the two, allowing students to learn from home and in the classroom. And, SBCUSD will continue supporting families with childcare needs and meal service. In order to best serve you we are asking that every family complete questionnaire forthcoming in the mail, online at www.sbcusd.com/opening, or scan the QR Code below. It is critical that we have input for every student in order to prepare thoroughly and appropriately. Please provide this information by July 13, 2020.
I want to reassure you that when our schools do physically welcome students back, we will adhere to all health and safety guidelines set by federal, state, and local agencies, including the California Department of Education, the Center for Disease Control, and the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health.

Estimadas familias del Distrito Escolar de San Bernardino:
Quiero agradecer a todas las familias y alumnos del Distrito Escolar Unificado de la Ciudad de San Bernardino por la paciencia y comprensión que nos han mostrado en los últimos cuatro (4) meses. El navegar la pandemia mundial sin duda será una valiosa lección para nuestros alumnos sobre la determinación que se requiere para tener éxito en momentos difíciles como estos.
Quiero brindarles nueva información sobre nuestro plan para el comienzo del ciclo escolar 2020-2021. Cuando el nuevo ciclo escolar comience el lunes 3 de agosto de 2020, será con un énfasis en brindar entornos de aprendizaje seguros y acogedores para los alumnos. Entendemos que esto significa dar a las familias opciones que puedan mejor cumplir sus necesidades específicas. Estas opciones quizás incluyan estudios completamente a distancia/digitales para las familias que todavía no quieren regresar a un entorno escolar tradicional, la enseñanza en persona en cuanto sea prudente regresar los alumnos a clase y un modelo que combinará ambos, que permite que los alumnos estudiar en casa y en el salón de clase. Y, el SBCUSD continuará brindando apoyo a las familias que necesitan cuidados infantiles y servicios alimenticios. Para brindarle un mejor servicio, le pedimos a cada familia que complete el cuestionario que se envía por correo, en línea en www.sbcusd.com/opening, o escanee el código QR a continuación. Es crítico que tengamos sus opiniones para cada alumno inscrito a fin de prepararnos completa y detenidamente. Por favor dennos esta información a más tardar el 13 de julio de 2020.
Quiero asegurarles de que cuando nuestras escuelas permitan que los alumnos regresen físicamente, nos adheriremos a todas las directrices de seguridad y bienestar fijadas por las agencias federales, estatales y locales, incluyendo el Departamento de Educación de California, los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades y el Departamento de Salud Pública del Condado de San Bernardino.
