Free Vision Screening and Recycled Eyeglasses
The Lions International Clubs of Yucaipa Valley and Grand Terrace are sponsoring free vision screenings/eye
health assessments and, if necessary, free recycled eyeglasses to anyone in need on Saturday, April 23 at San Bernardino High School. Check in is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and all services are provided for free on a first-come,

Our Music Education Rocks!
Congratulations to Elementary Instruction and Secondary Education for earning a 2022 NAMM Best Community for Music Education Award. SBCUSD was one of only 738 school districts across the nation and the only school district in San Bernardino County recognized for
outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, and students to make music education part of the curriculum.
SBCUSD Art Showcase
You can enjoy the amazing visual arts from our talented SBCUSD students during the National Orange Show Fair, now through April
24, at the NOS Event Center. Admission to the fair is free for all on Wednesday and just $2 per person on Thursday and Friday. Admission is $5 on Saturday and Sunday. Admission includes the art showcase, which

Summer School Registration Now Open
The
last day of school for San Bernardino City Unified students is June 2. When we started the school year back in August after more than a year in distance learning, we knew students would need additional support.
Since returning to in-person instruction, the SBCUSD workforce of more than 8,000 teachers and support staff have made tremendous strides in supporting student academic achievement by offering expanded learning opportunities
for students.
Just like last summer, our schools will remain open in June to serve students who will be attending summer session.
Families who want their elementary and middle school children to attend summer school in person can register them now until May 6.
Summer school will run from June 8 to June 30 and the hours for elementary school will be 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. CAPS will be offered from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Middle school students, including incoming sixth-graders, will also
attend summer school from June 8 to June 30 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A CAPS STEAM enrichment program will be offered from 12:30 to 6 p.m. and spots are limited.
And, the Virtual Academy is also offering summer school for students attending the academy. All students interested in summer school can register at www.sbcusd.com/summer2022.
Students who attend summer school will strengthen their academic foundations in English-language arts, math, and a variety of electives to prepare them for the next grade. Studies show that students who attend summer school perform
better academically because they have additional time to reinforce core skills and retain what they learned the previous school year.
“Summer school is not just for students who may be struggling academically,” said Director of Elementary Instruction Amy Coker. “All students can benefit from an extra month of instruction and engaging activities,
especially after spending more than a year learning at home during the pandemic.”
Free breakfast and lunch will be provided for all students enrolled in summer school. Transportation will be provided for students who qualify. |
