San Bernardino City Unified School District to Distribute Free Mobile Devices with Service to 1,000 High School Students in San Bernardino
WHAT: Sprint will host a kick-off event as part of its 1Million Project, where 1,000 high school students in San Bernardino City Unified School District will receive a free Chromebook and free wireless connectivity (wi-fi hotspot) to help close the homework gap. These students will be among the 180,000 high school students throughout the country who have been selected to receive free mobile devices and wireless service this year as part of the Sprint 1Million Project national expansion. There will be 15 students on hand to receive their devices and instructions at this location.

WHY: Research shows that 5 million U.S. families with school-aged children do not have internet access at home, but 70 percent of teachers assign homework that requires web access, creating a “Homework Gap” that puts these students at a disadvantage academically. Sprint and the Sprint Foundation are working to change that with the 1Million Project, a multi-year initiative to foster academic success for 1 million low-income students across the country by providing them with reliable connectivity to complete their school assignments from home.
