Strategy 1: Health, Wellness, and Safety

Based on our SBCUSD JOINT RESOLUTION SAN BERNARDINO HEALTH, WELLNESS AND SAFETY COLLECTIVE IMPACT INITIATIVE we are committed to actively support and engage in a collective impact initiative to improve health, wellness and safety issues within the communities served by the San Bernardino City Unified School District.

HEALTH: An optimal physical, mental, social-emotional and spiritual condition through which individuals are informed optimistic, active and loved; and communities are safe, productive places where individuals work interdependently for the welfare of all.

WELLNESS: A sense of hope, well-being and personal positive empowerment fostered in caring and giving environments where everyone has access to adequate housing, economic opportunities, and security in communities. Well communities are sensitive to diversity and instill pride by providing a sense of well-being to its members though healthcare, jobs and green spaces.

SAFETY: An environment that exhibits and values a culture of security, mental and physical stability, order, positive affirmations and embraces diversity of all members.

High Expectations
  • We will build an environment and foster a culture which sustains good health, lifelong wellness, and safety for all members of the SBCUSD community

  • We will strengthen our community through resiliency and empowerment of students and families.

Action Steps:
  1. Using the HWS Collective Impact Initiative, key individuals will serve on the committees to engage, actively support, and participate in improving HWS issues within our schools & communities served by SBCUSD.

  2. Increase physical safety “to-from-at” our school campuses/work sites through a collective impact approach.

  3. Communicate and market all available Health, Wellness, & Safety resources to our stakeholders

  4. Create wellness teams at our schools that serve as hubs of health, wellness, and safety.

  5. Educate and empower our students on health, wellness, and safety including healthy living, cyber safety/digital citizenship, character building, and Social Emotional Learning competency skills.

  6. Build the capacity of our families and staff to create a positive school climate through health, wellness, and safety.

  7. Establish common measures of success to monitor the progress of Strategy 1 implementation.

  8. Provide access for our students, families, and staff to wellness resources.
