Strategy 2: Coaching and Mentoring

We will strengthen human capacity through systems of coaching and mentoring throughout the organization.
Coaching is intentional relationship-based individualized professional development and support focused on increasing student achievement. Coaching increases capacity and expertise, stimulating new perspectives which evoke internal dialogue and motivation, creating a sustained transformational impact. Mentoring provides novices with guidance from a more experienced person to successfully navigate challenges and access opportunities to achieve their goals.

High Expectations
We have high expectations for all by ensuring that all district coaches and mentors are trained in evidence-based effective coaching and mentoring practices that increase student performance.
We will strengthen human capacity through systems of coaching and mentoring throughout the organization.

Action Steps:
  1. Create district coaching/mentoring frameworks to establish common language and systematic implementation, including a communication plan

    Develop an instructional coaching manual

  2. Expand the coaching strand of our Professional Growth Systems to include all employee groups at each level: New/Emerging, Practicing, Progressing, and Leading/Aspiring

  3. Identify appropriate employees to train as coaches/mentors across all employee groups

  4. Provide evidence-based training for all district coaches/mentors

  5. Create and communicate district mentoring systems for students

  6. Offer mentor/ sponsorship training to community outreach staff at sites and departments to better support families when coordinating resources

  7. Implement accountability measures to monitor effectiveness of coaching programs and employee engagement by measuring:
    - Number/Percentage of Cleared New Teacher Credentials
    - Number/Percentage of Cleared New Administrative Credentials
    - Completion of Aspiring Administrators Programs
    - Number/Percentage of Site Technology Coaches
    - Number/Percentage of Coaching Principals
    - Number of highly trained Teacher Coaches
    - Number of Certified Administrative Coaches

Success & Accountability
We will measure the success of our coaching and mentoring action steps by monitoring coaching and mentoring training and services, ensuring continuing accreditation for state credentialing programs, and measuring the impact of coaching and mentoring on success and achievement.
