Student Inter-District Transfer Requests

IMPORTANT UPDATES ON REQUEST FOR CHANGE OF SCHOOL/ INFORMACION ACERCA DE SOLICITUD PARA CAMBIO DE ESCUELA


Approval and denial letters will be mailed out to all elementary, middle, and high school parents during the week of July 13, 2020.

How to Request an Inter-District Transfer

Inter-District Transfers (Outgoing) from SBCUSD to another district.


The process for Inter-District Transfers (Outgoing) from SBCUSD to another district is as follows:


  1. The Inter-District Transfer form can be picked up in person at the Enrollment and Placement Services department. It is also available at the SBCUSD website.
  2. The Inter-District Transfer form can be submitted to Enrollment and Placement in person or via email.
  3. When submitted in person, the forms are approved and signed on the spot and given to the parent to hand-carry to the office of the desired school district of attendance.
  4. When submitted via email, we will review and process the request within 5 days.
  5. When approved, we will forward the request directly to the desired district of attendance, at which point that district may be contacted to follow up.
  6. Once reviewed and processed, a notification will be sent by mail stating approval or denial by the desired school district of attendance.

Inter-District Transfers (incoming)

Please contact your district of residence to complete and submit the Inter-District Transfer Request. Please note that your district of residence must approve the request before SBCUSD will accept it.

Inter-District transfers applications (Incoming) for the 2020-2021 school year will be accepted from January 3, 2019 - March 13, 2020. NOT LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. 

The process for Inter-District Transfers (Incoming) from another district SBCUSD is as follows:
  1. The office of the school district of residence must be contacted in order to obtain an Inter-District Transfer form from them.
  2. The form must be completed and submitted to them first.
  3. The district of residence must approve the request before SBCUSD will accept it. They may have the parent bring the approved form in person, or they may send it via mail.
  4. When SBCUSD has received the form with the approval, we will review it within 45 days.
  5. All requests are subject to space availability.
  6. Once reviewed and processed, a notification will be sent by mail stating approval or denial.

Please note:
In both incoming and outgoing transfer requests, both school districts need to approve the Inter-District transfer before the student(s) can enroll at the requested school.
