Our health aides play a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our students. By providing essential health support, they help create a positive and nurturing school environment where every student can thrive.
Health Aide Responsibilities
First Aid and Emergency Response
- Administer first aid and basic care for minor injuries or illnesses.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and follow established emergency procedures.
- Notify parents/guardians and school staff about student health concerns as needed.
Health Monitoring and Assistance
- Monitor students with chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies).
- Assist with administering prescribed medications following district policies and parental consent.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date health records for all students.
- Document daily health office visits, treatments provided, and medication administration.
- Assist with state-mandated health screenings and reporting.
Health Education and Promotion
- Support the implementation of health and wellness initiatives aligned with SBCUSD’s SHINES vision.
- Provide basic health education to students on hygiene, nutrition, and preventative care.
- Collaborate with families to promote healthy lifestyles and connect them with resources.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with school nurses, administrators, teachers, and counselors to address student health needs.
- Serve as a liaison between the school and community health resources.
- Assist with referrals to outside healthcare providers when necessary.
