  • Who They Serve: Students up to grade 12.

  • Cost & Insurance: Services are provided at no cost to the student or family. If applicable, WesternU will bill a student's health insurance (such as Medi-Cal).

  • Eligibility Restrictions: Students who are insured by Kaiser, who have had an eye exam within the last two years, or who are privately insured are not eligible.

  • Comprehensive Eye Exams: WesternU sets up equipment inside the school to provide full eye exams. This includes visual developmental and functional testing (checking eye coordination, tracking, and visual perceptual processing), which may require eye dilation.

  • Prescription Eyeglasses: Following the exam, students select their frames on-site. The custom glasses are delivered to the school for fitting and distribution roughly 2-5 weeks after the event.

How to Can Your Child Participate?

For your child to get this no-cost care, a caregiver just needs to sign and return the consent form.

If your student has been screened for vision and an need is identified, the School Nurse will send home the consent form to applicable students about one month before the event on your child's school campus.
