Physical Health Services

Updated SBCUSD Board Policy 5141.33 - Head Lice Management 

The SBCUSD Board of Education approved revisions on 01/14/25 to the Head Lice Management Board Policy, based on new research and guidance from leading medical organizations, including:

  • The American Association of Pediatrics
  • The Centers for Disease Control
  • California Department of Public Health
  • National Association of School Nurses

The information below highlights the key changes within the policy: 

  • Students suspected of having lice will be referred to the School Nurse/designee for confidential screening.
  • If live lice are found, the caregiver is notified and the student is returned to class.
  • Students will not be excluded from school due to head lice.
  • The caregiver will be given educational materials and treatment resources or referrals.
