Malaka grows up in Southern California with Filipino and Egyptian parents, balancing two rich cultures yet never fully fitting in. After her parents’ divorce, she’s raised by her Filipino family and spends summers in Egypt with her father’s new family, embracing both worlds through food, language, and tradition. Her love of writing takes her to Syracuse University, where she encounters a mostly white student body indifferent to cultural identity. There, Malaka learns to celebrate her heritage and realizes that what once made her feel different is what truly makes her unique.

After killing their evil parents and the death of Gert, the Runaways disbanded and went their separate ways. In an attempt to reunite the gang, Chase crashes into Nico’s apartment on a time machine, bringing Gert back from the past and on the verge of life and death. Nico uses her superpowers to bring Gert back to life. With half of the gang in place, Nico, Chase, and Gert embark on a mission to get Molly back, the youngest member of the group. The Runaways quickly find that Molly’s grandma does not have her best interest in mind.
