English/Language Arts

Building Effective Communicators
Secondary Education English serves San Bernardino City Unified School District’s middle and high schools (grades 6-12). As communication is important and significant in preparing students to be career and college ready, we support teachers as they aid students in the acquisition of literacy skills, and providing a focused, standards-based instruction. We also work with site ELA departments in implementing coaching models and professional learning communities. It is our goal to ensure that students are equipped with the tools to sharpen their English/Language Arts skills that will assist them in their future endeavors.

SBCUSD’s English Language Arts department currently uses Houghton Mifflin Harcourt textbook in the classroom. Student can access resources and the textbook online at my.hrw.com.

We encourage students and parents to browse the links that include resources illustrating how the California Common Core State Standards are integrated into our district’s Scope and Sequence, Benchmarks, and Curricular Guides.

Secondary Education English services include, but are not limited to:

  • Curriculum oversight
  • District assessments
  • Coaching
  • Training
  • Textbook adoption
  • Teaching resources
  • Modeling
