What is Dual Enrollment?
High school students taking college courses while still in high school, for both high school and college credits. The district will pay all fees associated with Dual Enrollment courses offered through district.
Dual enrollment can take place in a few ways:
- High school campus: College professors may teach courses at the high school campus.
- Online or on-campus: Students can attend college classes online or on campus
- Synchronous: At the same time
- Asynchronous: student logs in at anytime
- Specialized courses: Local colleges may offer specialized courses, such as engineering, nursing, or advanced mathematics, that aren't available at the high school
College and Career Access Pathways (CCAP): Courses are dual enrollment courses offered during the school's site regular bell schedule. The courses can be offered in person or online, but meet synchronous. These courses are only open to students at their respective sites.
Non College and Career Access Pathways (Non-CCAP): Are available to all sites and are usually taken online and offered as asynchronous. These courses are available to both SBCUSD and SBVC students.
Concurrent Enrollment Courses: These are college courses that the student enrolls outside of the Dual Enrollment program with the district. The student is responsible for all fees and books that are associated with the courses they are enrolled in.
Dual enrollment can help students:
