African American Student Success in Third Grade English/Language Arts

Hello. My name is Roxanne Williams, and I am a Program Specialist for ELA Equity for 3rd grade. My work supports teachers for African American student success in English Language Arts (ELA), including Foundational Reading, using problem solving and coaching in lesson planning, data analysis, co-teaching/demonstrations, and engagement strategies. I am currently utilizing brain-based approaches, Dispositions, and Instructional Practices from the Gap Closing Training. In addition, I am stressing the positive and counter narrative approach, whereby African American students use literacy as a tool for empowerment.
