The Adopt-A-School is a school-community partnership that builds a close relationship between a specific school and a specific business. The business “adopts” the school and provides varying kinds of assistance to students and staff during the school year. Adopt-A-School is designed to encourage business and community support for our schools; to provide the business sector with the opportunity to become involved in public education; and to give students the opportunity to meet and interact with the decision makers and leaders in the business world.

Adopt-A-School Benefits Both the School, Community and Businesses

The students being educated today are the workers of tomorrow. To prepare them for this job market, educators need to understand your needs, your problems in finding and training good employees, and what the coming trends are in the job market. Employers can benefit by learning firsthand what is taught in the classrooms. By interacting on a personal level, employers are better able to influence change in public education where change is needed.

Schools Benefit in Many Ways

  • Participate in career days, sharing valuable information about jobs in your field.
  • Read to students or let them read to you.
  • Be a mentor or a tutor.
  • Help raise funds for scholarships or other needs.
  • Provide a place where student work can be exhibited in your business.
  • Distribute school newspapers, newsletters, or other publications to your employees and friends.
  • Learn what’s being done at your adoptive school and speak up for public education to your friends and business associates. Our schools need increased understanding by the public, especially those members of the public who do not have children in school.

Adopt-A-School is Good for Business

More and more, business and industry are seeing the need and benefit of being active in public service. Good schools are good for business. While helping a school you will build goodwill with parents and staff members who may be potential customers, and you may be building a relationship with customers of the future–the students. Our schools are educating your future employees. Your success depends on well-trained employees; therefore, you have a vested interest in helping to ensure that those employees are well-prepared for the future. Adopt-A-School has been shown to be good for employee morale. It has been consistently reported in Adopt-A-School programs across the nation that employees feel good about themselves and about their participating company when they have the opportunity to see and help students.
