Emergency Preparedness

SBCUSD is dedicated to educate and empower the SBCUSD community to prepare for, respond to and mitigate emergencies, including natural and man-made disasters. Our goal is to promote preparedness through public involvement.

Remember to stay informed about different types of emergencies that could occur and their appropriate responses, make a family emergency plan, build an emergency supply kit, and get involved in your community by taking action to prepare for emergencies.

Incident Command System (ICS)

The Incident Command System (ICS) is a management system designed to enable effective and efficient domestic incident management by integrating a combination of facilities, equipment, personnel, procedures, and communications operating within a common organizational structure. ICS is normally structured to facilitate activities in five major functional areas: command, operations, planning, logistics, Intelligence & Investigations, finance and administration. It is a fundamental form of management, with the purpose of enabling incident managers to identify the key concerns associated with the incident—often under urgent conditions—without sacrificing attention to any component of the command system.

CERT Training

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, allowing them to focus on more complex tasks.
