 Classes Resume Monday
We hope SBCUSD students and families enjoyed a relaxing spring break. Classes resume Districtwide on Monday, April 4. Our school staff is eager to hear all about what students did during
the break. We know many of you traveled and participated in family gatherings, which are important and meaningful experiences for children. These experiences can also increase exposure to COVID-19. Please continue to
protect our schools by keeping sick children at home and reporting any known exposure to your school.
Jumpstart Summer Program
Seniors in the class of 2022 can now apply for the Jumpstart Summer Program!
Students have until April 12 to submit an application to attend free training to become a licensed drone pilot. Find out more about this Drone Pilot Certification & Training program offered by the Alliance for Education

Need a Prom Dress?
Tina’s Prom Closet and IE Rebound are hosting Say Yes to the Prom Dress on Saturday, April 2 from 12 to 5 p.m. at the Dorothy Inghram
Library. Free items include dresses, shoes, and makeup. For more information, call (909) 578-0970.
 Three College and Career Pathways Earn Gold Standard of Excellence SBCUSD
and the Linked Learning Alliance will honor Arroyo Valley and Pacific High Schools for bringing high-quality college and job training programs to students.
The April 5 celebration starts at 4 p.m. at the Dr. Margaret Hill Community Room, 777 North F Street in San Bernardino and will include presentations by students, educators, partners from industry and post-secondary institutions,
and policymakers.
The award-winning career pathways are the Digital Media Arts Academy and the Business and Logistics Academy at Arroyo Valley High School and the Digital Design and Communications Academy at Pacific High School.
These new Gold-Certified pathways are among the first pathways in the country to achieve this significant recognition. Linked Learning Gold is a distinction that means SBCUSD is excelling at increasing equity and preparing
students for both college and career.

 SBCUSD Salutes Women
March
is Women’s History Month and all month SBCUSD is honoring those who nurture and care for our students or attended our schools before going on to do great things.
For example, did you know that Anna Escobedo Cabral, who was born in San Bernardino and attended Bonnie Oehl Elementary, is an American politician
who serves as the Unit Chief for Strategic Communications in the External Relations Division of the Inter-American Development Bank. She also served as the 42nd Treasurer of the U.S. from 2005 to 2009! At one time, Cabral was
the highest-ranking Latina in the George W. Bush administration. Please like us on Facebook and follow us on Instagram.

 Five Framework for Excellence Essentials
On March 1, Superintendent Doc Ervin and his Executive Cabinet presented to the Board of Education a start-up plan for putting SBCUSD on a transformational path to becoming a high-performing District
where all students attend quality schools that prepare them for college and careers. The SBCUSD Framework for Excellence: Vision 2025 is based on five overarching goals that will help us become an educational community
of continuous improvement:
- Academic Achievement
- College & Career Success
- Social-Emotional Learning
- Family Engagement
- Health & Safety
The input you, our stakeholders, gave Superintendent Ervin during last year’s Listening and Learning Forums, coupled with the more than 600 classrooms he has visited and the dozens of one-on-one meetings he had
with community leaders, resonate into one crucial message: Stakeholders want SBCUSD to be excellent for kids! The March 1 presentation highlighted short-term actions the District is taking in preparation for the
next three years. A Strategic Planning Task Force, including parents, students, teachers, Board of Education members, school and district staff, and community leaders, is developing action plans within these five overarching
goals to carry us through 2025 and take SBCUSD to a higher level of excellence for kids.

How Do You Feel?: An Updated Checklist For Students
As school districts move away from health mandates that were in place at the height of COVID, screening children for symptoms of illness each morning before sending them to school is one tool that works
all year.
That’s why the Board of Education wanted every SBCUSD student to receive a printed, hard copy of the illness screening questionnaire used during COVID. This questionnaire was previously included in the Roadmap to Reopening and the Communications Department updated the questionnaire to make it a year-round health screening tool. The new version will help you identify COVID-19 symptoms and recognize other illnesses so you can keep your child
home and keep our schools healthy.
Your child will receive a printed symptom checker at school when they return from spring break. Be sure to keep a copy of it handy for the rest of this school year and use it to screen each child before they leave for
school.
The English and Spanish symptom checker will also be uploaded to the District website and shared on social media. Remember, when in doubt, keep your child home and report the illness to the school office. |
