School Start Times Will Change Statewide Next School Year
SBCUSD needs your input on how the change to school start times next school year might impact you and your family. Please complete the survey at http://sbcusd.com/latestartsurvey by Sunday, March 13, 2022.
As required by Senate Bill 328, signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2019,
SBCUSD middle and high school students will start school later next school year so they can benefit from more sleep. The law, called the Portantino Rule, requires that by fall 2022, middle schools begin no earlier than
8 a.m. and high schools at 8:30 a.m.
During the February 15 Board meeting, District staff presented information on the various implications of implementing later start times at SBCUSD schools. As a result, the District will adjust the bell schedule
at all sites beginning July 1, 2022. For the 2022-23 school year, SBCUSD is considering the following start and end times for a regular school day:
- Elementary Schools: 8:50 a.m.–3:30 p.m. (school bus riders will be required to participate in Sunrise programs beginning at 7:30 a.m. and after-school programs, with some students boarding the bus home as late as 4:45 p.m.)
- Middle Schools: 9:00 a.m.–3:31 p.m.
- High Schools: 8:30 a.m.–3:35 p.m.

Change Your Clocks
It’s time to spring ahead for Daylight Saving Time. Remember to set your clocks ahead one hour on Sunday, March 13. It’s important
to make the change on Sunday so your child is not late to school on Monday, March 14.
Transitional Kindergarten Enrollment Fair
The District is hosting a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Open Enrollment Fair on Saturday, March 19, 9 a.m. to 12 noon,
at Jones Elementary School, 700 North F Street in San Bernardino. Children who will turn 5 years old between September 2, 2022, and February 2, 2023, are eligible for transitional kindergarten. TK is an opportunity
for students who are too young to enroll in kindergarten to have access to a quality, free education.
Virtual Education Job Fair
If you or someone you know is interested in a career as a teacher, counselor or other education professional, be sure to register for

Spring Break Grab ‘N’ Go Meals
Families will be able to receive curbside Grab ‘N’ Go Meals during Spring Break on Monday, March
21, 2022, 9–11 a.m. Students and children up to age 18 can receive 10 days worth of breakfast and lunch at the following eight distribution sites: Arroyo Valley High, Cajon High, Del Vallejo Middle School,
Indian Springs High, Muscoy Elementary, Richardson PREP HI, San Bernardino High, and San Gorgonio High. See the map for more details.

Mask Mandate Ends for SBCUSD on March 12
Wearing masks in SBCUSD schools and District buildings will be optional beginning March 12, 2022. Effective next week, staff and
students will be able to make a personal choice about whether or not to wear a face covering.
While the statewide school masking mandate goes away Saturday, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and SBCUSD continue to recommend face coverings to protect against COVID-19 exposure. SBCUSD will keep providing
masks for anyone who would like to wear them on school campuses and in District buildings. Mask wearing will continue to be a normal activity in our District, and we should all be supportive of anyone who chooses to wear a face
covering at work or school. We should also respect those who choose not to wear a face covering. Everyone has a personal reason for their choice and each choice is perfectly acceptable in our schools.
School Calendar Survey
SBCUSD needs your input for the 2023–24 and 2024–25 school year calendars. The Calendar Committee will review the results and provide
a recommendation to the Board of Education. Please complete this survey now through
Friday, April 8, 2022.

Dear SBCUSD Families:
To make it easier for students to get no-cost, at-home COVID-19 antigen tests, the State of California has provided additional COVID-19 test kits for students enrolled in SBCUSD schools. Your child’s school will be sending the kits home with each student the week of March 14.
The tests are meant to assist you with quickly determining if your child may have COVID-19. Each iHealth test kit includes two tests and instructions. These are the same type of COVID test kits you received in January. When you
receive the student test kit, use the link below for a COVID-19 Test Kit How-To Guide and registration information. Once you have completed registration and submitted the results, they will be shared directly
with the California Department of Public Health and your child's school COVID liaison.
We strongly encourage you to use the kits to test your children and report positive results into the Primary.Health system before students return to school after Spring Break. The results are important because they will allow
us to proactively keep our students safe and our schools open for teaching and learning.
Please note: If your child receives a positive COVID-19 test result, you must keep the child home and report the results to the school on the first day you call to report the student's absence.
