Future in Focus
Quick tips, brief updates, and reminders about what’s coming up to help families, employees, and our community make the most of our schools.

Framework for Excellence
Just a reminder to watch the Framework for Excellence presentation on Tuesday, March 1, during the Board of Education meeting. This framework is our proposed plan for moving the District forward and on the path to excellence. You can watch in person at the Board of Education building, Dr. Margaret Hill Community Room, 777 North F Street or online on the District’s YouTube channel.

Virtual Read Across America
The District is hosting a virtual Read Across America event for all students on Wednesday, March 2, 9 a.m.–12 noon and 1 p.m.–3 p.m. If you or someone you know would like to be a guest reader, please complete the online form at https://bit.ly/3B1oIr2.

SAT: Reach for Your Potential
SAT School Day 2022 is on Wednesday, March 2, and SBCUSD will be providing the opportunity for select juniors to take the SAT at their school during the school day at no cost. High school juniors should contact their high school for more information.

Honor Choir Showcase
The District Honor Choir, which includes amazing student vocalists from elementary through high school, will perform on Thursday, March 3, 7 p.m., at the Pacific High School Gibbs Auditorium.

Group Tracing Reminder
In addition to individual contact tracing, SBCUSD plans to begin using group tracing as an option on Monday, March 7 in select circumstances to reduce disruptions to student learning. If you have not had an opportunity to complete the Consent/Opt-Out Form, you are encouraged to complete it online through ParentSquare or return a hard copy form to your child’s school. You can download or print the form here.

Weekly Bulletin Board
Every Monday at 11 a.m., we’ll share a collection of events and announcements to keep you connected to the District and community. Be sure to check them out here.

Highlights of the Week
Highlights of key news from the week that will help you stay in the know.

Schools to Watch
Congratulations go to Serrano and King Middle Schools for earning re-designation as 2022 California Schools to Watch. Being named a School to Watch is evidence that the school is a model campus for engaging and motivating students to learn and helping to close the achievement gap. Serrano Middle School was originally named a School to Watch in 2016. King earned the honor in 2019.

SBCUSD Honor Band and Orchestra
The Honor Band and Honor Orchestra, featuring the best student musicians from across the District, performed at Pacific High School on February 23 and 24, respectively. The students spent hours practicing at school and at home to qualify for these elite musical groups. Programs like this are just one reason SBCUSD is a 2021 Best Communities for Music Education award winner.

Operation Student Recovery
On Thursday, February 24, District staff and community volunteers visited the homes of 188 students during Operation Student Recovery (OSR). OSR is the District’s award-winning program designed to help reduce chronic absenteeism for our most vulnerable students through one-on-one outreach. To learn more about Operation Student Recovery, please contact the District’s Attendance Team at (909) 880-6807.

Congratulations to San Bernardino High School Cardinals girls’ varsity basketball team on their victory over the Victor Valley High School Jackrabbits. Next stop is the CIF finals on their home court on Saturday, February 26, at 7 p.m. Let’s go, Cardinals!

San G Spartan Soccer
Congratulations to the San Gorgonio High girls’ soccer team for winning the San Andreas League title and ranking #2 in CIF-SS Division 5 going into the playoffs. The Lady Spartans won the first two games of the CIF-SS playoffs, but ultimately lost to Walnut High School in the quarterfinals. Way to go, Spartans!

Annual SBCUSD Black Honor Roll

Special congratulations go to the 1,659 amazing African-American scholars who were honored on Saturday, February 19 at Indian Springs High School as part of the Annual Black Honor Roll. These students were recognized for their academic achievements and exemplary attendance. Students had to have no more than two absences for the first semester or achieve a 3.0 or higher G.P.A. to be recognized. More than 280 students earned highest honors for having a G.P.A. of 3.75 or higher.
