Children who will be 5 years old by September 1, 2022, are eligible to enroll in kindergarten for the 2022–2023 school year. Transitional kindergarten (TK) is available for students who will turn 5 years old from September 2, 2022, to February 2, 2023.

February Reading Challenge
We challenge families to visit the Literacy Campaign website and join #SBCUSDReads! In February, we encourage children to read about the topic of perseverance.

Free Smoke Alarms
The American Red Cross Southern California Region is working to reduce the number of lives lost every year to home fires. Fires in the home claim seven lives every day. To make sure you don’t become a statistic, be sure to test your smoke alarm monthly to make sure it’s in working order. If you don’t have a working smoke alarm in your home or don’t have at least one per floor, the Red Cross is offering free smoke alarm installations. Call (714) 481-5334 or visit http://SoundTheAlarm.org/SoCal to learn more or register for an appointment.

Weekly Bulletin Board
Every Monday at 11 a.m., we’ll share a collection of events and announcements to keep you connected to the District and community. Be sure to check them out here.

In the Spotlight

Our COVID-19 Commitment to Families
As we near the second anniversary of the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, public health guidance for educational settings continues evolving.

When the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) or Centers for Disease Control (CDC) change the recommendations for our schools to safely operate, school districts like ours often have no advance notice, leaving us with little time to digest large amounts of detailed information before passing it along to our families. However, we do our best to be transparent about important decisions that impact our 46,000 students and more than 8,000 employees.

We have learned many important lessons during the management of the pandemic, and we are proud of all that we have done and continue to do to keep our schools safe and open for teaching and learning.

We thank families for always advocating on behalf of their children because ultimately you know what is in their best medical interest.

So as guidance evolves and procedures change, we’re committed to understanding the implications of those changes on our students and our schools. And, we’re committed to keeping you informed every step of the way.
