Face Covering Reminder

Face coverings are one of the most effective ways to combat the spread of COVID-19 and they remain mandatory while indoors in schools and offices. Face coverings must be worn properly over the mouth and nose at all times when indoors.

Dedicated District Employees Welcome Students Back from Winter Break

On January 10, the San Bernardino City Unified School District welcomed back more than 43,000 students from a three-week winter break.

There to welcome students back were our more than 8,000 dedicated teachers, classified employees, administrators, and managers, making it possible for our schools to stay open for teaching and learning amid a spike in Omicron cases.

Through the past two years, our employees have been the backbone of our school system and they deserve praise.

If you know a school employee, even if they don’t work in SBCUSD, please thank them for their commitment and service during these challenging times. Expressing our gratitude is the least we can do for those who are keeping our schools afloat.

SBCUSD Employees Are Appreciated

On Wednesday, January 12, SBCUSD treated nearly 1,000  awesome employees to a food-truck lunch, with trucks stopping by our three administrative offices to cater delicious tacos, barbeque, and hamburgers for our staff. It was a small token to show our workforce how much they mean to SBCUSD and our entire community.

Please partner with SBCUSD to make our staff know they are appreciated. You can do this by chiming in and shouting out our employees when you see one of the many District posts on social media.

UPDATE - January 14, 2022
Your student received take-home COVID test kits today.  We encourage you to wait and test your child on Monday and then report any positive results via the Primary.Health barcode/instructions on the test kit. If your child comes back positive, please keep them home on Tuesday.

Dear SBCUSD Families:

To make it easier for students to get no-cost, at-home COVID-19 antigen tests, the State of California has provided COVID-19 test kits for students enrolled in SBCUSD schools. Your child’s school will be sending the kits home with each student tomorrow, Friday, January 14. Families who wish to pick up the kits in person must call their child’s school to make special arrangements before noon on Friday.

The tests are meant to assist you with quickly determining if your student may have COVID. Each iHealth test kit includes two tests and instructions. When you receive the student test kit, click here for a COVID-19 Test Kit How-To Guide and registration information. Once you have completed registration and submitted the results, they will be shared directly with the California Department of Public Health and your child's school COVID liaison.

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise, these at-home test kits can offer a safe, quick, and convenient way for students to monitor their health and help to reduce transmission. Per the Office of the Governor, the use of these test kits is voluntary and this is a one-time allocation so you will NOT be receiving additional kits. If opting to use the test kits, students/families are advised to read the safety precautions and directions carefully.

We strongly encourage families to use the kits to test their children and report positive results into the Primary.Health system. The results are important because they will allow us to proactively keep our students safe and our schools open for teaching and learning. Please keep in mind that these kits are intended for you to test students and should not be used for other family members. The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health is offering free COVID-19 test kits for families. Please visit sbcovid19.com/rapidtests for more information.

Please note: if your child receives a positive COVID-19 test result, you must keep the child home and report the results to the school on the first day you call to report the student's absence.

Thank you for supporting us and helping us keep our school community healthy and safe. You play the most important role in helping us keep our schools open for teaching and learning.

Sincerely,
Doc Ervin
Superintendent
