Various studies have shown that students are more likely to put forth their best effort and care about their education when they know that school staff and others in the community care about them. That is why San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) staff reach out directly to frequently absent students and their families to encourage students to return to school through Operation Student Recovery.
On April 16, 2019, teams of SBCUSD managers and staff, along with community volunteers, will spend the morning visiting the homes of students who have been absent from school and personally invite students to attend class. This invitation comes with an offer to help students overcome the obstacles that are keeping them out of school, which could include anything from referrals for mental health services or enrollment in a tutoring program.
For more information or to join Operation Student Recovery, call SBCUSD Youth Services at (909) 880-6807.
