The San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) is taking one more step towards its commitment to health, wellness, and safety for students, parents, and staff with the Fall 2018 Wellness Symposium this weekend.

The two-day symposium is designed to promote emotional, psychological, social, and physical well-being for all students and families. Strategy 9 of the SBCUSD Community Engagement Plan, which was created with input from parents and community members, recognizes that before students can fully focus on their education and achieving their full potential, they need to have basic needs met, like food, shelter, adequate health care, and feeling safe.

The first day of the Symposium is Friday, October 12, and is exclusively for SBCUSD middle and high school students. The workshops will focus on everything from the importance of dental health to overall health to ending the stigma of mental illness and empowering students to seek help and encourage their friends to do the same.

Saturday’s Symposium is open to SBCUSD employees and parents. Workshops will be offered in English and Spanish and range from the effect music has on well-being to the importance of strong social connections to reducing anxiety and depression.

Free child care and Spanish interpretation are available for attendees.

Saturday’s Wellness Symposium begins at 8:30 a.m. at Arroyo Valley High School, 1881 W. Base Line Street in San Bernardino. Visit https://fall2018wellnessssparents.sched.com/signup to register.
