Mikki Cichocki was raised in San Bernardino and attended San Bernardino schools. Her parents also taught in the District. Mikki was attending Parkside Elementary School when the District began implementing its desegregation plan.  She was also in the first class to move to high school as a ninth grader where she attended San Bernardino High School and where her mother taught.  Being a typical teenager, Cardinal City was not big enough for the both of them and she graduated from Aquinas High School.

A graduate of Cal Poly, Pomona focusing on business and human resources, Mikki went to work for Xerox. While office equipment is important, she knew she needed more and in 1988 she began her career with SBCUSD. She taught elementary and middle school and later worked in Youth Services on the Administrative Hearing Panel conducting expulsion hearings and handling discipline, transfers and attendance issues. She also worked as a Program Specialist in Youth Services where she implemented the San Bernardino Restorative Youth Court.  Mikki recently retired from the San Bernardino City Unified School District after more than 30 years.

Mikki currently serves on the board of the California Association of Youth Courts and the advisory board for the Reach Out Youth Courts. As a parent and educator, she has served on PTAs, school site councils and numerous other committees in several school districts. She is a strong champion for students and is dedicated to ensuring all students have the support they need to succeed. Mikki is known for her ability to bring diverse groups to the table, and for her support of union values and workers’ rights. She is passionate in striving for fairness and collaboration in achieving what is best for the students in our schools.

Her priorities include:

  • Creating a culture of success for all students
  • Enhancing access to science, technology, the arts and vocational education
  • Ensuring accountability and fiscal responsibility
  • Providing students and staff with safe and welcoming schools
