TITLE 1
INDIAN SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL

Title I Parent Information

2016-2017
Indian Springs High School participates in a variety of state and federal categorical programs to help students achieve success. This letter is to inform you on one of these programs, Title I, Part A, which is provided under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) act of 2001.
Title I, Part A is a program made possible by funding provided by the federal government to give assistance primarily to students who have difficulty meeting grade level standards. In a school-wide school like ours, all students receive services because many families are struggling economically, and many students are in need of assistance with grade level work. Research has shown that research-based, whole school improvements help all students improve their learning, so our Title I dollars are used to provide assistance to all students, especially those who are struggling academically.
At Indian Springs we have a number of services, materials, and supports that are provided through the Title I program. Some of these include the following:
-Classroom computers and instructional software, multimedia projectors, and audio-visual materials that make learning more exciting.
-Extra books and hands-on materials to assist students who have issues with reading and math.
-Professional development opportunities to help our teachers implement new programs and learn more effective ways of reaching out to students.
-Additional teachers, academic support staff, and aides to work directly with students.
-Strategies, policies, and practices that utilize scientifically-based research and have the greatest likelihood of ensuring that all groups of students will meet the state’s achievement targets as well as strategies to promote effective parental involvement in the school
As the Program Specialist I am available for consultation to talk to you about your child’s needs and what help is available. Help is provided during the regular school day and after school. Parent input is of critical importance in every part of the program, including planning, governance, implementation, and evaluation. We have two councils, the School Site Council, the English Learners Advisory Committee that are legally responsible to advise on the program, and other parent committees and councils that help plan and evaluate the Title I program. For example, we would like to form an African-American Parent Advisory Committee (AAPAC). Each year, the parents work with teachers, administrators, community members, and students to develop a Single Plan for Student Achievement.
All parents and students will be asked to sign a home/school compact which is an agreement between the school, the parent, and the student to work together for the highest educational benefit for the student. Also, if you are dissatisfied with the program, you have the right to complain through the District’s Uniform Complaint Procedure. A copy of the District’s Uniform Complaint Procedure is available on the schools website. An administrator can assist you in registering a complaint, and will answer any questions you might have. You also have the right to be involved in any decisions regarding your child.
Please let me know if you would like to meet and discuss the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of academic assessment used or the proficiency levels that students are expected to meet. This information can assist you in making meaningful decisions about services that your child might need in order to maximize his or her learning potential.

Again, if you ever need assistance or have questions please feel free to contact me.
