California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP)

The Smarter Balanced Assessment System utilizes computer-adaptive tests and performance tasks that allow students to show what they know and are able to do. This system is based on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics.

Who takes it?

Students in grades 3 through 8 and 11 for ELA and mathematics.  The summative assessments are administered as part of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System.

What is it?

The Summative Assessments are comprehensive end of year assessments of grade-level learning that measure progress toward college and career readiness. Each test, English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics is comprised of two parts: (1) a computer adaptive test and (2) a performance task, administered April 11th-May 12th.
