Gwen Dowdy-Rodgers is a lifetime resident of San Bernardino, a wife, and mother, and graduate of San Bernardino High School.
She has a Bachelor’s of Science in Social Work and a Master in Human Resources Management & Management and a twenty year background in finance management. Gwen is currently employed with EMQ FamiliesFirst as community development specialist civic/governmental relations where she advocate on behalf of foster youth. She is also the founder of Young Women’s Empowerment Foundation (YWE).
Gwen is a community leader and parent advocate championing hope as a Hope Maker
and embraces SBCUSD’s community engagement plan strategy High Expectations for All.
As a parent advocate she is an active volunteer on numerous state board such as the California Department of Education welcoming environment taskforce and is on several SBCUSD’s committees such as grading policy, A-G Readiness, and Customer Service.
Gwen has worked directly with teachers and principals and numerous school sites
in various capacities. She was the president at African American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC) at Cajon and the District African American Advisory Council (DAAAC) where parent participation was raised by 80 percent.
Gwen’s focus is on student success, parent involvement through welcoming environments, authentic parent and student engagement,meaningful and inclusive parent and teacher partnerships, student success, culturally relevant teaching
techniques, sound fiscal responsibility, and equity for all students.
