The Artist in Residence Program is a partnership between Palm Avenue Elementary School teachers and artists from The Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. Every classroom kindergarten through sixth grade has 12 workshops (during the school day) with a professional artist and a culmination performance for parents and students. Each artist also provides a Professional Development Workshop for teachers and an Evening Workshop for all of Palm's parents, students and siblings.
The Visual and Performing Arts disciplines are scheduled in a four year rotation: Visual Arts, Music, Theater and Dance. This year's focus is Theater and includes Ellen Schulze (Puppets bringing curriculum to life), Sharon Diskin (Storytelling through Mime), Peter Kors (Storytelling) and Koni McCurdy (Shakespeare).
The Fine Arts Program provides a variety of assemblies throughout the year which teach respect for other cultures and inspire interest in multi-cultural studies as well as emphasize compassion and tolerance versus bullying.
