Weapon-Free Campus Policy
Students Against Weapons (SAW)
Students and others are encouraged to report guns and other weapons on campus. The School Police Department pays cash rewards for information that results in the elimination of a weapon from campus.Anonymous tips may be telephoned to the SAW Hotline at (909) 388-6043.
The San Bernardino City Unified School District has declared all campuses as weapon-free zones. Each parent and student is requested to sign a contract agreeing to the principles of keeping our campuses free of weapons. This contract is included as part of the enrollment packet.
Look-Alike Weapons Policy
When a student is in possession of an object which appears to be a dangerous weapon (i.e., a replica of a hand gun, etc.), the student shall be deemed to have violated Education Code 48900 (m), and may be suspended under this section, or recommended for expulsion if the disruption creates an unsafe situation, and there are no other means of correction available.
Possession of Self-Defense Tear Gas Weapons
No kindergarten through twelfth-grade pupil, even if the pupil is 16 years of age or older, may possess a tear gas weapon while taking part in any regular school activity, including extracurricular, after-school activities such as athletic events and dances. Although the Penal Code authorizes a person 16 years of age or older to possess and carry a tear gas weapon, the District maintains complete authority over the possession of tear gas weapons on school sites. School administrators are directed to advise pupils of this prohibition and that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken should any pupil be found in possession of tear gas weapons at school or at a school activity.
