Electronic Signaling Devices
Electronic Devices

Tablets, laptop computers, radios, MP3 players, iPods, games, beepers, cell phones, and all similar electronic devices are permitted on campus with the following restrictions and conditions:

  1. They are used during non-instructional time.
  2. Failure to relinquish the device to a staff member due to inappropriate use may result in disciplinary action.
  3. The District and school are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged devices. Consequently, incidents involving the loss, theft, or damage of devices may not be investigated by administration.

Electronic Signaling Devices

No school shall permit the use of any unauthorized electronic signaling device that operates through the transmission or receipt of radio waves, except for the restrictive use of cellular phones as described below:

  • Students are permitted to possess cellular phones for use before school and after school—not during instructional time.
  • Students must keep their cellular phones with the power off and out of sight during instructional time 
  • The District and its employees will not be responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen cellular phones.
  • School administrators may confiscate from students cellular phones when in use during the instructional day.
  • Students are prohibited from using cellular phones at school as recording devices and/or cameras.

No student shall be prohibited from possessing or using an electronic signaling device that is determined by a licensed physician and surgeon to be essential for the health of a student and use of which is limited for purposes related to the health of the student (Board Policy 5131) (Education Code 48901.5).
