Nutrition Center
The San Bernardino City Unified School District is the seventh largest in the State of California.

Faced with the challenge of feeding its growing population, the San Bernardino City Unified School District constructed a 46,000 square foot Nutrition Center in 1991. In 2003, to meet the demands of the district's estimated 2,000 new students yearly, a 17,000 square foot expansion to the Center was completed.

This facility has allowed Nutrition Services to accomplish the following:
  • Provide affordable, nutritious meals to all students
  • Produce up to 45,000 meals in an eight-hour shift
  • Utilize use of state-of-the-art, high-yield food production equipment
  • Realize many cost savings and energy savings

Nutrition Center Facts
  • Total refrigeration and freezer capacity is almost 17,000 square feet
  • Dry storage area is nearly 9,000 square feet with pallet racks four tiers high
  • 45,000 pounds of chilled water  is in a closed loop that is constantly recycled throughout the day
  • A 10,000 gallon gas island provides fuel for the Department's fleet of delivery trucks
  • A cardboard baler allows for the recycling of 20 tons of paper annually
