Creative After School Programs for Success (CAPS)

What is the
Creative After School Programs for Success (CAPS)?
CAPS is an after school program that begins when school is released. The aim of the CAPS Program is to provide after school experiences that will enhance each student's academic, social, and emotional development.

What will my student do at CAPS?
After having a nutritious snack, students spend time doing homework before activity time. Some of the activities that students enjoy include playing sports, such as soccer, flag football, basketball, and softball. Other activities include scrapbooking, Dance, Kidbiz 3000, and tutoring for enrichment.

Positive Behavior Supports

Cypress is a PBS school! We have high expectations of student behavior. At Cypress students, staff, and parents must follow the three rules: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe. Students will participate in daily lessons that teach classroom and school wide expectations and behavior skills. Students are rewarded for following expectations with Cypress Bucks that they can use to purchase items at the student store or tickets for special events.

Response to Intervention

Response to Intervention is a philosophy used at Cypress to ensure that all students learn. Throughout the day students may change classrooms, participate in small groups, or work on special computer programs that provide either intervention or acceleration options. Teachers will explain these placements with parents at conference times. Please feel free to contact the school at any time that you feel your child needs extra help.

ABE Bilingual

Cypress Elementary also offers ABE Bilingual classes for students who only speak Spanish. The program starts when the students are in kindergarten and continues through sixth grade. Students are taught in both English and Spanish with the goal of them becoming bilingual. By the third grade the class is taught mostly in English.

Special Day Classes (SDC)

Special Day Classes (SDC) are available for students with disabilities. We have four SDC classes on campus, pre-K, K, 1-3, and 4-6.
