I am Susan Mathis, Counselor for Thompson Elementary School. I’m excited to work with the wonderful students, staff and parents at Thompson.

My role as a school counselor is to provide support and services in the areas of academic development, personal and social development, career development and help improve attendance. I provide students individual counseling, group counseling and guidance lessons. I collaborate and support the students, staff and parents in addressing issues that may be interfering with the student’s academic success and social development. I provide referrals and assist in coordinating families/students with community resources and services as needed.
“Too Good for Violence” (TGFV)
is the character education program for grades 1, 3 and 5. TGFV teaches students positive attitudes, beliefs and behaviors. The skills in the TGFV lessons assist students with academic, social and emotional development such as caring, cooperation, courage, fairness, honesty, respect, responsibility and self-discipline.
Positive Behavior Support (PBS)
is a behavior system SBCUSD has adopted. This program systematically teaches behavioral expectations to be used in the classrooms and across the school campus. There are three Core Behavioral expectations. They are: Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be safe.
Referrals to the Counselor can be completed by student self-referrals, school staff or parents.
