Mrs. Abigail Medina, the mother of five children attending San Bernardino City Schools, was elected to the Board of Education in November 2013. Abigail has a long track record of involvement in District schools, starting when her oldest son was in preschool and continuing today with leadership roles in a variety of parent and civic groups.
As a longtime parent volunteer, Abigail has served on a diverse list of committees, such as the District English Learners Advisory Committee, the District African American Advisory Council, and the Community Budget Advisory Committee. She was previously a senior parent organizer with Congregations Organized for Prophetic Engagement (COPE).
In addition, she served on the Strategic Planning Team that drafted the District’s Community Engagement Plan. She is the founder of Talented and Gifted in the Inland Empire, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to inspire parents to advocate for their gifted children.
In fact, Abigail strongly supports efforts to empower all parents to become more involved in the education of their children. Her goals include increasing the number of District students who graduate from high school prepared to attend a college or university of their choice.
