Third Grade
In third grade, students read many words using their knowledge about letters, sounds, word patterns, and phonics.  They have ways to figure out words which may be unfamiliar to them.  While reading students answer specific questions about the story.  Students have basic comperhension skills.  They write about familiar events, friendly letters, and a variety of other writing genres.  Students in third grade also understand place value and number relationships in addition and subtraction.  They use simple concepts of multiplication such as skip counting by 2s, 3s, 5s, & 10s.  They measure length and weight with appropriate tools. They classify and see relationships among quantities by paying attention to the similarities and differences.  Students collect information and check their answers.  For more valuable information and creative ideas, please visit  www.cde.gov
