Choose a College
In California, there are five systems of higher education that students can choose to attend. Students should be aware of the requirements for admission for each system.
- The California Community Colleges (CCC) (Public) offer a wide variety of academic and vocational training programs. An Associate of Arts and Sciences degree can be earned in approximately two years of full-time study. At the community college, students can complete the first two (freshman and sophomore) years of a university education. - The California State Universities (CSU) (Public) offer a wide variety of courses in liberal arts and sciences and specialized training for a variety of career fields. A Bachelor of Arts and Science can be earned in approximately four years of full-time study. Advanced degree programs are also offered. - Independent Higher Education System (Private) Many private colleges offer a traditional course of study for a Bachelor's degree, which takes approximately four years of full-time study. Click on the following links for specific information about local private college choices.
- Accredited Colleges (Private) specialize in preparing students for a particular career. Some offer specialized majors and a core of liberal arts courses that can lead to an Associate of Arts degree
